Melanie Pettefer

Safety Professional

For nearly 17 years, Melanie was the Manager, of Health & Safety with Yukon Energy Corporation.  Here Relevant previous work experience also includes:

  • Safety Coordinator at Brewery Creek Mine through 1997 to 2001.  In those days there were 300 employees, and it was a year-round heap leach operation.  My husband and I enjoyed living in company housing in Dawson City for four wonderful years; got married on the ‘Dome’ and both our children graduated from Robert Service School.
  • Obtained my professional designation in 1998. In those days the CRSP exam was approx. 8 hours in duration and a stubby pencil was all they gave us to use!  There were written essays, multiple choice questions, mathematical problems and general Q&A questions included as part of the exam.  Of course, I believe it was much harder (and longer) than it is now!
  • COR Coordinator, then Manager of the Yukon Contractor’s Association. Back in the day worked to change the name to Northern Safety Network Yukon!

Contractor Safety Management is an area that I am very passionate about. The risks vs the reward is an area I believe needs to be managed and forms a major part of the Bid package. Helping others understand the requirements of Owner and Prime Contractors is where I can support clients.
